The University of Rijeka publishes call for application and enrollment in the first year of undergraduate and graduate study programs for each academic year. These calls define the conditions, instructions and deadlines for applications and enrollment in the first year of university undergraduate and graduate studies for the upcoming academic year. The calls are published on the websites of the University and the Faculty.

Applications for enrollment in undergraduate study programs and the selection of study programs are conducted electronically through the National Information System for Applications to Higher Education Institutions (NISpVU). Instructions for the electronic application process are available at www.postani-student.hr and www.studij.hr.

Applications for enrollment in graduate study programs and the selection of study programs are conducted electronically through the National Information System for Applications to Graduate Studies (NISpDS/NISpVU2). Access to the National Information System for Applications to Graduate Studies (NISpDS/NISpVU2) is available at diplomski.studij.hr. Instructions for application and the list of required documentation are available on www.studij.hr by selecting the option “All About studying in Croatia”.

After the completion of the application process, candidates who gain the right to enroll in study programs at the Faculty of Physics will enroll via a web application. Details about enrollment, access to the application, and required documents are published on the Faculty’s website for each academic year.

Tuition fee for undergraduate and graduatestudy programs at the Faculty of Physics is €1,100.00 per year, and administrative fee for first-year students is €55.00 for the academic year 2025/2026. The University of Rijeka makes annual decisions regarding the amount of tuition and enrollment fees, which are published on the websites of the University and the Faculty.

Call for applications for enrolment in doctoral study in Physics in the scientific area Natural science, field Physics, in the academic year 2026/2027

The Faculty of Physics enrols up to 10 students. The Programme is conducted entirely in English.

By completing the study programme minimum of 180 ECTS credits is acquired. Upon the completion of the study, the academic degree of Doctor of Science (PhD) in Natural sciences, the field of Physics, is awarded.

The total cost of the study is 982,15 EUR per academic year (2.945,15 EUR in total) and can be paid in full or in three installments that are paid when enrolling in each of the three years of study. The doctoral study in Physics lasts three years, and the student is obliged to complete the study within a period that is twice as long as the duration of the study at the latest.

The cost of registration fees for students in the first year of study is 55,50 EUR, while for students in higher years of study is 40,00 EUR. The enrollment fee is paid every calendar year for the duration of the studies.

Enrolment requirement: completed graduate study programme.

The selection of students for enrollment will be made according to the criteria and procedures established by the Pravilnik o doktorskim studijima Sveučilišta u Rijeci and the implementing regulations adopted on its basis.

In addition to the Application form for the admission into the Doctoral study in Physics (DrO1 form), which can be found on the Faculty of Physics website, the applicant must provide the following enclosures (official documents are accepted only if written in Croatian or English, otherwise certified translations to one of these languages must also be submitted):

1. Proof of qualifications:
   • Graduate and undergraduate study diploma (copy)
   • Official transcript of all exams and grades at graduate and undergraduate study
   • Average grade of graduate and undergraduate study
   • Master’s thesis title and grade.
2. Curriculum Vitae (European CV format) which, in addition to basic information, includes professional and academic experience, including (if any):
   • Evidence of professional training in the fields related to the Doctoral study in Physics
   • Evidence of scientific publications
   • Evidence of the international scientific conferences participation
   • Evidence of student awards, experience in teaching courses and being demonstrator at higher education institutions.
3. A statement by a person holding a research position about his/her willingness to act as applicant’s mentor containing a full contact information (affiliation address, telephone number, e-mail).
4. A letter of recommendation by at least one person holding a research position that, signed, the scientist sends by post or by e-mail (dr.studij@phy.uniri.hr) to the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Physics.
5. A Motivation letter (up to 500 words) written in English, elaborating on:
   • The completed degree and the level of satisfaction with previous graduate study
   • The field of physics the applicant is interested to work in
   • The motivation for applying to the doctoral study in Physics and the expectation from the study
   • List of courses considered to enroll in (it can be a broader list than minimal)
   • Wider interests in science, apart from the chosen field of physics.
6. If the applicant is competing for the doctoral study in Physics in nonregular status (studying as part of full or adjusted teaching hours), it is necessary to attach a short explanation for such selection.
7. A statement on the sources of funding for the doctoral study in Physics. If the applicant does not pay the study, the statement is signed by the head of the institution that is willing to finance the study.

Especially:

Before entering the study, applicants who have gained a graduate degree in foreign educational institution, are obliged to submit the Decision of the recognition of their foreign higher education qualifications for the purpose of continuing higher education in the Republic of Croatia (academic recognition) issued by the Office for Academic Recognition of Foreign Higher Education Qualifications and Study Periods at the University of Rijeka.

Enrollment for students enrolling for the first time in the 1st year of the PhD study program in Physics in the 2026/2027 academic year will take place from September 28 to October 2, 2026.

Enrollment for students enrolling in higher years of study will take place from November 23 to 27, 2026.
