The Senate of the University of Rijeka established the Doctoral School on 24 May 2016, taking responsibility for doctoral studies across all scientific disciplines. In its 2014–2020 Strategy, the University committed to developing a school closely linked with scientific projects, international cooperation, and the exchange of teachers and students, as well as to creating financial instruments for doctoral programmes and doctoral candidate scholarships.
The main goals are to improve the quality of doctoral studies, strengthen research and teaching capacities, promote interdisciplinarity, establish international doctoral programmes, and ensure research-oriented education that prepares students for independent research careers.
